Name that toon!

It was hard to resist calling this post 'Name that toon!', forgive my cheesiness. As someone who has been on a lot of roleplay realms in the last I am mostly used to seeing names that have some realism to them, names that a mother would name their child for example. Since moving to Draenor I have seen more and more random names which are not normal names that you'd be giving to a baby orc at birth, but rather silly nicknames with perhaps an in-joke behind them *grins at a certain female GM I know*. This led me to think about what people consider when they name their 'toons'. Personally I am still stuck in my old way of thinking; each character has to have their own deep and meaningful name which seems normal and at least slightly lore appropriate. Sharing two of my main's name origins with you will show you what I mean.

Nazriana- This warlock, believe it or not this named after a minion that my very first alliance lock had. The succubus was called Nazriana and I loved it, so I kinda used it on this lock and also on a DK on my old realm :).

Shiraha- This is a Japanese word meaning 'white feather'. It has other meanings too, but that is the most common meaning and that is what I wanted. This was originally just going to be a roleplay character. I wanted her to have an obsession with white birds etc and her hair was white too and she only wore white (she was originally a night elf). While I know that Japanese culture doesn't exist in the game, I thought the name particularly suited her character.

As you can see, I probably put a bit too much thought into my character names. If you read this and feel like it, leave a comment below or tell me in world how you pick your names, it would be very interesting to hear a few examples.

  1. My first warlock on OH's account was called Summerrain as it was featured in an AFI song, Summer Shudder (Under the summer rain...I burned away)It was also the name of a cheesy dance song I love haha.
I then got my own account and decided to name my character crashlove after AFI's (At that time) current album. Although I was just new and was going through a bad time 2009, my sister died. I told the guild I was in and somehow word got out and I got a few sick people /w about it, really trolling badly about it. (THEY did get reported, to their guild masters too, some took it seriously some were even worse)
I decided, Crashlove had inadvertently become the album in which I related through going through that bad time...NAME CHANGE. I wanted something new, something "Belf-y" Béloré and unlike others, I had the é to accentuate the name ...BEHlorEH
I got with a fellow warlock, he moved over here...long story short he wasn't who he was claiming to be an it unfortunately it took me 2 years to get myself together and get rid of him...so that name, kinda reminded me of that.
Hence name change to Evastrasza...I originally made it up as I had a thing of naming my pets after warcraft dragons, I liked the name EVA for my kitten and I wanted something "dragony" so I fused the two. I decided to call my GW2 character that name but I never really levelled her, I have tried other MMOs but their main flaw to me is they are not WoW...
Long story short I moved my lock to draenor and renamed her to Evastrasza. I am not really used to the name after being Bel for so long that when in groups or Gchat people talk to Eva (Eva being me) That I accidentally sometimes ignore them....oops...
